Latest Covid-19 advice for sports – 25 September 2020

From Saturday 26 September, the NSW Government is easing restrictions on school and community sports in view of continuing low Covid-19 case numbers.

The Chief Medical Officer’s advice to restrict inter-regional sports no longer applies although she still warns that shared transport, e.g. car pooling, should be avoided.

While the restriction of one parent/carer per child at sports events has been lifted, provided social distancing is observed, sports bodies may decide their own policy in this regard.

As fencing is an indoor sport, the NSWFA Covid-19 Committee will continue to maintain:

– A limit of one parent/carer per child for junior (under 17) competitions, training sessions and camps at the NSW Fencing Centre. Coaches are permitted to attend competitions in which a child they teach is competing.

– Only fencers and their coaches may attend senior (over 18) competitions. No visitors/spectators are allowed.

All other Covid-19 precautions remain in place under the NSWFA Covid-19 Safety Plan including:

  • Log-in/log out at the Fencing Centre
  • Temperature checks
  • Sanitising hands and equipment
  • Wearing of face masks (except when fencing/training)
  • No sharing of equipment
  • No personal contact
  • Maintain social distancing
  • No mingling/socialising

Fencing clubs should also follow these precautions.

The Government has also relaxed rules for school sports and other activities, though this is not relevant to fencing as the 2020 schools competitions are over.
