#Advancewithher

#AdvancewithHer initiatives are designed to empower girls and women in our sport.

Sponsored by the NSW Office of Sport, NSWFA has received generous funding to encourage more girls and young women to take on coaching and refereeing roles including those residing in regional areas.

Our current focus and ongoing project is:  The ‘Her Sport Her Way’ Program

The aim of the grant is to diversify potential channels of involvement within the fencing community for our female fencers. We are offering pathways for female fencers to become certified referees and / or certified L0 coaches.

Safeguarding for girls

Girls, it is important to understand how to keep yourself safe in daily training and competitions.

Watch this video of Keep yourself safe in fencing’, a conversation between our MPIO Aleks Kotevski and advisor Jane Thorpe.

You will learn how to identify grooming, a proper way to communicate with your coach, what to do when you feel uncomfortable about certain behaviour from your coach or other adults around you etc.

We encourage everyone in our community to watch out for each other.

See something, say something!

Setting goals and defining a pathway to follow to reach them. Focusing on each step along the way.

Tactical/analytical

Sizing up the situation and working out the best tactics you can employ to win.

Adaptability/flexibility

Realising that when your tactics are not working as planned you need to change them, quickly.

Resilience

Determination, will power and stamina. Never giving up. Coming back again after defeat stronger than before.

Accepting reality

Knowing that however much you may wish otherwise, the numbers on the scoreboard are the practical reality you must deal with.

Analysis and learning

Reviewing what worked and what didn’t then changing your approach to how you do things to build on your strengths and overcome or at least manage your weaknesses.

Teamwork

Accepting that however good you are as an individual you need to work to the plan devised by the team leader and deliver on the task you have been assigned.

Humility

Treating every opponent with respect. Taking satisfaction in winning, losing with grace. Knowing that however good you are, at some time you’ll be facing someone better than you.
