Pathway

There are three level of State Referees:

  1. Senior Referee
  • Can referee NSW Mini Series, NSW Aged Competitions (U15 and Cadets), Junior, Senior & Veterans competitions
  • Referees are assessed for by NSWFA – Level of competency suitable for ALL State Competitions. Referees are part of continued Referee Education pathway, and National Accreditation Pathway.
  • Paid role with NSWFA
  • Suitable age 13+
  1. Junior Referee
  • Can referee NSW Mini Series
  • Referees are assessed for by NSWFA – Level of competency suitable for Mini Series or equivalent State Competitions. Referees are part of continued Referee education pathway of State Accreditation.
  • Paid role with NSWFA
  • Suitable age 13+
  1. Trainee Referee
  • Can referee NSW Mini Serie under supervision
  • This is a referee trainee position, prior to being assessed. – Referee education and training experience. Aimed for those wanting to be assessed.
  • Suitable age 13+

Referees can be multiple weapon or single weapon.

The overall program for Referee development and continued education will be run under the guidance of the NSW Head Coach, Antonio Signorello.

How do we call referees for state competitions? 

State Referees are only used for Mini Series, U15 and Cadet Competitions. State Competitions which are self-refereed are Junior, Senior and Veteran.

State Referees are rostered prior to each competition – according to their availability.

There is continued Referee education and development through NSW Seminars and “What’s app Chat” referee group, Including videos and discussions.

NSW DT

Right now DT at competitions has been managed at two levels:

  • DT – Operational role
  • DT – Managerial & Logistic role

DT – Operational role

The primary role is the operation of “FencingTime Live” at State Competitions.

This role requires an induction period for education and training on how to operate “FencingTime Live” This role requires a basic understanding of the FIE rules associated with Fencing Competitions.

This is a paid role with NSWFA after training period.

Suitable for 16y+.

DT – Managerial & Logistic role

The primary role is to manage State Competitions on the day, including organising final entries and any late registration, piste allocation for events, referee coordination, podium presentation,  taking podium photos, and general announcements.

This role requires a comprehensive understanding of the FIE rules associated with Fencing Competitions.

This is a paid role with NSWFA after training period.

Suitable for 16y+.

It takes three to fence! Good reffing is vital. All fencers should know how to referee. It will help you analyse the action in a bout and enhance your own fencing.
