Key personnel

NSW Fencing has been able to engage key personnel funded by the Office for Sport, Organisation Support Program (OSP). These are significant roles which represent a major step forward in growing our sport and making it more accessible to all.

Dr Arash Karpour Member Protection Information Officer (MPIO) Dr Arash Karpour is a Level 2 trained Member Protection Information Officer (MPIO) who has served with NSW Fencing since 2017. In this role, he provides confidential, impartial guidance to athletes, parents, coaches, and officials on member protection issues, helping them understand policies, navigate concerns, and access appropriate support pathways. Arash is deeply committed to fostering a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment across all levels of the sport, and works proactively with clubs and organisers to promote best practice in child safeguarding, complaint handling, and codes of behaviour.
Jerry Morris Sport Coordinator

Jerry has had a 50 year career in IT, working with large and small business entities in senior management and project delivery roles, as well as international IT executive management experience. This included managing virtual teams around the globe, so Jerry has a strong focus on communication. Jerry’s extensive IT background, particularly in delivering projects, will be extremely beneficial in this role. In 2017 Jerry was instrumental in getting the tournament management software we use (FencingTime) homologated for use in Australia. This is now used by AFF, NSWFA and most other states as well as at many clubs.

Jerry has been involved with NSWFA since late 2010, as a fencing parent, volunteer laying out fencing pistes at PCYC Marrickville in the early hours of the morning, weapons check for National competitions, a member of the NSWFA board for a short period, and supporting his wife Emila who was a NSWFA DT for several years (and is now also back DT’ing again). This has provided Jerry with a strong understanding of the amazing sport of fencing, including empathy for the confusion parents can experience when new to fencing.
