Membership
Membership of NSW Fencing gives you access to member benefits and events, as well as access to compete in club, state, interstate, and national tournaments.
Membership information is below, or click here to sign up to a membership.
Membership types
There are a range of different memberships designed to meet different needs:
- Club, school, novice and B grade fencers
This is the membership to choose if you do fencing for social and fitness reasons, and/or if you’re just starting out with competing and would like to compete in club and schools tournaments (including national schools tournaments), as well as novice and B grade. If you begin competing with this membership and would like to compete in higher level tournaments during the year, simply add a state membership – you can do this at any time in the year. - State fencers
Choose this membership if you want to take your competing to the next level of challenge and would like to compete in state tournaments. - National fencers
For the most competitive fencers, when you're ready to compete interstate and at national events, add this supplementary membership to your State membership. - Coaches
Choose this membership as part of your annual requirements for national accreditation, and to access coach member benefits such as insurance for nationally accredited coaches. Please note, if you are also a fencer who wants to compete, you’ll need a fencing membership in addition to a coaching membership.
The table below shows which membership, or memberships, are needed for which tournaments:
| Tournament type | Membership/s required | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Club + School + Novice + B grade (inc National School) | Club + School + Novice + B grade | This membership category is for fencers who compete on club-level and/or school tournaments, novice and B grade. Participation at National School events is included. Sign-up is possible throughout the year. |
| Club + School (inc National School) + State |
State | In addition to the Club + School tournaments, fencers can compete at State tournaments. Sign-up is possible throughout the year. |
|
Club + School (inc National School) |
State + National and Interstate Supplementary |
From 2025, the membership categories have been set-up in a two-tier system, giving fencers the flexibility to start competing in state tournaments, and only top up with a National and Interstate membership when they are ready. Sign-up is possible throughout the year. Note: Fencers need to sign-up to both State and the National + Interstate Supplementary membership in order to compete at that level. (Once the State membership has been purchased, the Supplementary membership will become visible on the Memberships page and can then be purchased.) |
Information for fencers aged under 18 years
A parent or guardian must be the primary contact for the membership of a fencer who is aged under 18 on 1 January of the membership year.
Information for life members
Life members are honoured members of the Association and have full access to Association benefits, events and tournaments without needing any additional membership. This includes honorary members who are coaches – if you are an honorary member who is a coach, your honorary membership satisfies the membership requirement for national accreditation.
