Features of the new schedule include:

  • even spacing throughout the year, avoiding the hottest weather and with attention to school holidays, exam periods, and national and international events
  • use of Olympic Park area venues
  • providing opportunities to fence in multiple age categories and weapons
  • beginning age categories at U11 to encourage a focus on fencing for fun in younger age groups
  • novice events for all age categories up to U20
  • B grade events for the senior age category
  • lower entry price for novice and B grade events, and giving access to novice and B grade events with the basic NSW Fencing membership
  • single gender events for equitable opportunities
  • state championships scheduled to facilitate preparation for corresponding national events
  • schedule published well in advance, with more information on each event.

Feedback indicated a clear interest in club competitions, and NSW Fencing encourages all clubs to host club and inter-club tournaments, especially teams competitions, as a vital component of development and pathways for fencers. NSW Fencing is developing criteria to endorse club tournaments and include these in state rankings, and will be in touch with clubs when these criteria are finalised. Clubs interesting in hosting tournaments of all levels should contact NSW Fencing to discuss any support they may need.
